Effective March 27, 2026, Minnesota law requires drivers to stop for school buses immediately when red lights start flashing, regardless of whether the stop arm is extended. Drivers must stop at least 20 feet away from the bus, closing a loophole that previously allowed passing during the brief moment before the arm fully extends.
